Heidi Cody
Taking an anthropological view of the supermarket's place in American culture, Cody's work from her series titled "Branded" closely examines the products we are exposed to, advertising, and their place in our everyday lives. In her piece “American Alphabet” Cody uses letters taken from commercial logos, causing viewers to pointedly acknowledge that they are indeed quite familiar with a product's consumer identity. The artwork's isolation of the first letters of each product's brand name and it's placement on an advertising lightbox creates a playful atmosphere reminiscent of works from other Pop artists such as Andy Warhol and Jasper Johns.
